How To Treat Athlete S Foot?

Hi there, I have dry flakey skin on the bottom of my feet. I started treating them for athletes foot a while ago and they improved a lot, but over the last fortnight they haven t got any better, even with continued treatment. I wear fresh socks every day, and even change them after work/before the gym. I don t use the gym showers. I treat them twice a day with Athlete s foot cream. Any ideas on what could be stopping them from fully healing? Kind regards

Hello,

There are various causes that can lead to flakey dry skin, athletes foot (fungal infection) is one among them. You already doing what is to be needed for treatment of athletes feet. The other causes of the dry and flaky skin at feet are:
1) Sweaty exercise routines: Excess perspiration and humid environments causes foot infections, which lead to peeling of skin - bacterial infection may cause flaky skin too.
>> Treatment - Dip or spray your sneakers (shoes) in Lysol (Disinfectant spray).
2) Strappy heels shoes in case of women - they tend to cause friction (Notice lot of blisters while trying to breaking new shoes)
>> Remedy - Don't wear shoes for too long, wear natural materials that kind of mold to your feet, and as soon as you start to feel friction, change your shoes
3) Eczema - manifests through scaling of the skin (Eczema patches might be red, or might be darker in color than your normal skin tone, especially for those with olive tones or more deeply pigmented skin)
>> Advice - many topical remedies available through podiatrists and dermatologists please consult.
4) Dehydration :- skin starts to flake off everywhere
>> Treatment - Rehydrate and Moisturizing your feet with fragrance free creams
5) Psoriasis:- It is a chronic skin disease that can cause red flaking patches of skin, which can sometimes affect your feet
>> Treatment - thick moisturizer like Vaseline jelly and apply on the foot and leave it on for entire night with covering of sock over it. If not resolving the issue further consultation may be required.

Thus, based on your description in the question it seems like you may have something else along with athlete foot (fungal infection). Try and see if any other mentioned causes may also be present and follow the advise mentioned below each cause.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
