I was either stung or bitten by an insect above my left ankle late Friday afternoon. I washed and disinfected the sting/bite 15 minutes after it happened. The site of the bite/sting swelled, as did the top of my foot. The swelling has started to decrease, but where I was stung/bitten is very red (about the size of a quarter) and there s any area about 3 square to the bottom right of the sting/bite that is discolored. On Saturday, I used Benadryl cream to lessen the itching. I have not used anything topical today. It s uncomfortable and my foot still feels a little stiff ( but I can walk on it and I rode my bike for several miles today). I have no idea what stung/bit me. I was moving Pampas Grass plants out of my car when it happened and saw small black ants on the floor of my car afterwards. I ve been stung by red ants before, but I usually end up with white pustules at those sting sites and I don t have those this time. I purchased the pampas grass at a nursery that has some tropical plants. I live in New Orleans. If the swelling and discoloration aren t markedly better in the morning, should I make an appointment with my internist?
