How To Reduce Weight While Having Hypothyroid?

hi I am a hypothyroid patient and taking 112.5mcg thyronorm daily in the morning. I have 2 children ageing 12 years and 8 years. in 2009 I again got pregenant and got it aborted after consuming medicine. since than I am putting on weight. I desperately want to lose weight. My thyroid is now under control since 8 months. plz help

Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Answer for your 2 issues:

1. Hypothyroidism : Your TSH has to be brought below 2.5 if you are planning for pregnancy. The dose of the thyroid medication has to be adjusted to achieve this target. Thyroid medication wont cause weight gain

2. Weight gain

Once thyroid function is normalised further weight loss is not possible with thyroid hormone replacement. So you have to look for other options. The options include
a. Diet and exercise
b. Medications - like orlistat and locaserin
c. Surgical - bariatric surgery
