How To Reduce Dosage Of 'metoprolol' For Heart Spasm?
Female. Age 61. Heart Spasm age 57. Heart Attack age 58. PTSD since age 6. PTSD therapy for one year. 3 years on 100 mg of Metoprolol, (2x50). Cardiologist has ordered reduction to 50mg without real specific detail for weaning schedule. Doing well with 38mg 2x daily. should I take 38mg 2x day for one week or two weeks before dropping to 25mg 2x day?

Thanks for writing to us. Following are my comments:
1)You hav'nt mentioned about the pulse rate and BP, first measure the pulse rate. If the pulse rate is less than 60, you may wean the dose of metoprolol after 1-2 weeks and if it is on higher side, weaning should be done cautiously as per your doctor's advice.
2) Metoprolol is helpful in spasmodic cardiac pain also. so it can be used prophylactically in low doses
