Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I had a fracture in left foot fifth metatarsal, Cast was for 5 weeks. Now almost 10 days without cast however swelling is still there. Could you please suggest how much time it will take to remove and what should I do and don't to recover soon? Is ultrasound therapy will provide any help?
Hi, As mentioned you had fracture of fifth metatarsal (probably undisplaced ) and put on cast for five weeks . Bone healing takes 4-6 weeks to unite and around 18months to remodeling but after 3 weeks there develops stiffness in joints (as one joint above n below fracture are immobilized by cast) and causes pain , swelling and restricted movement . So now just you need to do proper physiotherapy along with warm compression and take calcium tablet once a day , along with analgesic and proton pump inhibitor as and when required(your orthopaedition must have prescribed), You should NEVER MASSAGE.
HOPE THIS WILL HELP
THANKS N REGARDS
