Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis was diagnosed at hospital ct scan ..I am trying to increase my fiber intake with fiber gummies and natural fruit carrots, celery, apples and drinking dlots of water. What else should I be doing to keep this under control?
Noted your history of being diagnosed with diverticulitis on CT scan and now worried about how to keep it under control. It seems that this was an incidental finding on CT scan does for something as you have not mentioned any symptoms. If there are no symptoms of pain at the site of diverticuli then this is diverticular disease and needs no special treatment other than to keep the stools soft. Use stool softeners in an appropriate amount which are taken with plenty of oral fluids while consuming. If there was any pain, fever, and so on then you need additional treatment with antibiotics, metronidazole and probiotics. Further management as per the advise of a Gastroenterologist after clinical evaluation and correlation with the investigations.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
