How To Heal An Ear Caught With Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

I suffer with eustacian tube dysfuntion, tinnitus and both ear drums are retracted. I have had a eustacian tube sweep done on 3 seperate occassions but still the ear drums are retracted and I can not equalize pressure. I already steam twice a day, take anti-inflammatories, seen a chiroprator and currently waiting for allergy blood tests. What else can I do? this has been going on for 5 years. Many thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

ET blockage may be functional or anatomic, the former being the most common and responds to nasal decongestants and antihistamines. Try frequent swallowing(chewing gums help) and valsalva manoeuvre with mouth and nose closed- these will help opening a closed ET.

But despite all measures, if it is persisting, I would recommend a scanning (HRCT / MRI) of the temporal bone area to look for any anatomical caused of obstruction, which may need surgical correction. Kindly discuss with ENT specialist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
