How To Heal A Long And Open Sore In The Crease Of Lower Abdomen?
Hi, my mom is bedridden and she is a heavy set woman. She has a sore in the crease of her lower stomach. It`s about two inches long and wide open. The healthcare person who comes to the house every other day says to put prescription powder on it and a piece of absorbant material over it. It doesn`t seem to be getting better. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi, The long duration open sore is better treated by regular absorbant dressings. Nothing more needs to be done. It will heal on its own but it will take a little longer time as your mom is a heavy set person and the fat cells dont get good blood supply for early healing. you need to be just careful in not gettng the wound infected. This is achieved by keeping the wound dry (not drenched with sweat), regular bath/ soap water wash of the woundand immeditelyblotting it dry. remember not washing the wound with soap water can also cause accumulation of dirt and infection. It is a misconception that clean water/bathing is contraindicated when a long duration sore is present
