How To Get Rid Off Keloids?

I have three spots on my cabg scar that are about as big as a quarter, they are raised and itch, hurt and ugly.
seems like they get worse when it is colder outside. Doctor says it is keloids. Can they be repaired by laser
surgery or any other safe surgery other than cutting with chance of infection?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic.

Keloids is due to excessive formation of scar tissue as part of the wound healing process. This is raised above the surface unlike normal scaring which is flat/level with the skin.

Usually Keloidal scars are itchy and they extend beyond the wound margins with finger like projections.

Keloids are best managed with intralesional steroids e.g intralesional triamcinolone acetonide. The depot injection causes breakdown of the excessive collagen tissue present in keloidal scar, thereby causing them to flatten.

The injection might be repeated after 3 weeks if required.

CO2 Laser vaporization is also an option for management of keloids
