How To Find Out The Absence Of Nasal Bone In An Ultrasound?

I just had my 19 week ultrasound. Latersl ventricles measured 1.0 and 1.2, no other neuro abnormalities. She also said the baby has an absent nasal bone. I had a maternal 21 blood test at 10 weeks which was good, with no chromosomal discrepancies. I m hoping she was not a skillful tech, and all will be just fine. This was the same tech that told me the baby s am ionic sac was measuring smaller than the baby at 8 weeks. I later found it was fine. Looking for real input. I m scared to death something is wrong with my baby, even after the chromosome blood test was ok.

Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic.
Absent nasal bone can be seen on Ultrasound. The nasal bone is seen anteriorly in the nasal region as a hyperechoic structure. It is not very hard to locate it though if she is not a skillful tech she might have read it wrongly. If the chromosome study is normal, you need not worry at all. That is 100% specific. If its normal, your child cannot have Down's syndrome.
I don't think there is anything to worry.
You can get a repeat ultrasound at a different place for your satisfaction.
Hope it sorts your problem and wishing you a speedy recovery.
