How To Detect Hiv Infection?

Hello Doctor, I had Anal Intercourse with a colleague on 12th June and since then i have a feeling that i am infected with HIV.

I have consulted a Physician in Apollo clinic who prescribed me Tab "Duovir" for 28 days and then to go for a HIV Test.

My colleagure says she is clean and never had Intercourse with others except with her boy friend and she is very upset and not answering my calls when i have told her about my fears.

Please advise

Anal sex is certainly a 'high risk activity ' for transmission of HIV and I guess the physician at Apollo clinic has put on a ' nPEP (Non occupational post exposure prophylaxis ) with Duovir for 28 days. As a rule , your colleague too, should be tested for HIV There is protocol for this nPEP --a test a base line , then after 6 weeks and finally at 3 months. If all these tests remain negative and you don't re-expose yourself , then your risk of getting infected with HIV is very little.
But try to explain reason with your colleague and get her tested . In HIV parlour nobody is considered 'clean unless his/her blood is tested negative as there are no specific symptoms .Hope these help. Regards
