How To Cure The Condition Of Proteus Mirabits ?
Hello, I'm caretaker for my 90yr old mom (125lbs 5'1") for 8yrs now. She has a wound in the coccyx area that started with a bump on the toilet seat, got infected later. We have a nurse service. I took her to the hospital Nov 1, then we went to the general Dr, who sent wound care help to our home. Finally after a month they decided to do a culture which result was proteus mirabitis. The wound was healing but has a little tunnel and is black inside, it's very small about half size of a round pencil. It's all patched up with gauze and tape to prevent wetness. My mom is not walking but sits and we do go out. Now the Dr insists she enters the hospital today, with which I'm very uncomfortable. My mom has lewy body demenita complex and other than that no other ailments such as (like diabetis or high Bp etc). Is this really necessary to subject my poor mom to the hospital,germs and people who speak English badly, besides can this not be taken care by medications and what do you suggest otherwise please.? Simple infection
Drugs commonly recommended for simple UTIs include:
- Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra, others)
- Fosfomycin (Monurol)
- Nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Macrobid)
- Cephalexin (Keflex)
- Ceftriaxone
- The group of antibiotic medicines known as fluoroquinolones — such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin) and others — isn't commonly recommended for simple UTIs, as the risks of these medicines generally outweigh the benefits for treating uncomplicated UTIs. In some cases, such as a complicated UTI or kidney infection, your doctor might prescribe a fluoroquinolone medicine if no other treatment options exist.
Often, symptoms clear up within a few days of treatment. But you may need to continue antibiotics for a week or more. Take the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed.
For an uncomplicated UTI that occurs when you're otherwise healthy, your doctor may recommend a shorter course of treatment, such as taking an antibiotic for one to three days. But whether this short course of treatment is enough to treat your infection depends on your particular symptoms and medical history.
Your doctor may also prescribe a pain medication (analgesic) that numbs your bladder and urethra to relieve burning while urinating, but the pain usually is relieved soon after starting an antibiotic.
