How To Cure Persistent Acne?

I am 45 years old, and for the past 8 months I have been having persistent acne. It is very upsetting to me because I did not have this problem when I was younger. Yes I did have pimples once in a while where one may come out but then it would go away. I have been using lemon juice and rose water but unfortunately not much help. I am now using a acne cream which has 10% benzoyl peroxide. It is called Terminator 10. I have been using this for almost a week now. I know that it will take more than a week to see if this works. Homemade remedies have not been doing much good. I did not expect to have this problem as I watch what I eat, and I exercise at least 5 days a week. I will admit though that occasionally I would indulged in things like cakes, and cookies, but I usually try to avoid much daily intake of sugar. As I have mentioned above that this is bewildering to me because at this time of my life I am having persistent acne. Is it time to see a dermatologist? How much should I expect to pay if one is recommended? Your advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

'Adult onset acne' after the age of 30, is more common in females and is mostly due to hormonal imbalances.

Males can occasionally also experience outburst of Adult onset acne specially in those who have oily skin.

If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use a topical benzoyl peroxide gel in a strength of either 2.5% /4% OR 5% rather than 10% strength, as it is too strong for face.

I would advice that you see a dermatologist. Your treating dermatologist might also want to put you on oral antibiotics like doxycycline or Azithromycin for 4-12 weeks(depending on the severity), if you have inflammatory acne.

take care
regards
