How To Cure Knee Pain Due To Rough Edges On Knee Cap And Cartilages?

Hi I m 63 years old and overweight. As a child I was diagnosed as having rough edges on my knee cap and cartilages (if I remember correctly) a few weeks ago I began having pain on the outside of my knee and occasional bursts of severe pain. My doctor sent me for an X-ray and I m still awaiting results. However the paid is very bad now and I can t straighten the leg or weight bear. Should I go directly to hospital or wait for results and rest.
