How To Cure Cold, Pain And Clogging In Ears?

i've had a pretty bad cold for about 3 days now, it moved into my left and right ears, and i irrigated them at home which relieved the clogged feeling and pain, but it soon returned in both ears, and just recently i blew my nose and was hit with an excuciating agony and pressure that held for about 60 seconds then started making noises and stabbing pains like it was forcing itself past my eardrum

hi and thanks for the query,
during cold the eustachian tubes get clogged.
these tubes connect the ears to the nose. their fuction is to maintain atmospheric pressure in the ears.
when the tubes get blocked you get blocked sensation in the ears.
follow some simple measures.
1) unclog the tubes with decongestant nose drops like otrivin. instill 3 drops in each nostril 3 times a day for 5 days.
2) do not blow your nose forcefully.
3) do not eat cold foods.
4) drink plenty of water.
if you develop pain in your ear or if the symptoms continue for 3 more days then you may need antibiotics.
regards,
Dr Rajkishori.
