Please do not worry - it is not your fault as you describe it. Did your doctor tell you about hemochromatosis or iron overloading? Of course, it is up to doctor to make this diagnosis but your symptom description does sound like this disorder.

Continue to avoid supplements with iron in them, iron fortified foods, molasses and limit red meat until you discuss this possible diagnosis with the doctor so you can get an idea of exactly what is wrong, what to expect and treatment.

Irregular heart beats can be a consequence of iron overload. Please pursue clarification of this disorder as soon as possible because early intervention can prevent serious problems late in life.

Good luck! Feel free to keep me posted! Kathryn Shattler,MS,RDN
