How To Confirm If A Pill Stuck In The Wrong Pipe Has Dislodged?

I think I swallowed an over the counter allergy pill down the wrong pipe. I was about to swallow and panicked because I don't like taking pills very much. It felt as though I tried to breathe and swallow at the same time and choked. I had a fair amount of pain with discomfort. People tell me this has caused someone they know to go to the ER. How would i know it went down the airway? How should I react, or can I head to bed right now?

Hi,

If your pill has entered into the trachea, then you may get cough, breathless and chest tightness.

Most probably it has not entered into the wind pipe. Please get upper GI endoscopy and bronchoscopy done for confirmation.

Use soft liquids. Do water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
