How To Avoid Vomiting Caused Due To Indigestion After An ACDF Surgery?

I had acdf surgery 2 weeks ago. I have been feeling amazing and well on my way to recovery. However tonight I at pizza and I m very nauseous. I m afraid I may vomit. Will vomitting harm my fusion? Can I take pepto bismal, my doctor said to avoid aspirin based products? I want to calm my stomach.

Hi,

Post operative vomiting like following ACDF surgery can put large amounts of stress on surgical incisions, leading to major complications like poor or delayed healing, dehydration, and more. Pepto-bismol may be used to treat nausea and vomiting associated with indigestion. However, I would suggest a stomach acid suppressant like pantoprazole along with domperidone. Yes, you have to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin as they may cause bleeding and interfere with bone healing.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
