Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I'm a 39 yo women from Malaysia. My height is 169cm & weigh 78kgs. Recently I was diagnose with low HB count at only 5.5. I was told to undergo blood transfusion immediately. After given 3pints of blood, basically I'm ok now with lesser heart palpitation. What shall I do to maintain the HB besides taking iron tablets as prescribed by the doctor.
Second question is, I'm also planning to get a 2nd baby and recently my gynae prescribed me some fertility pills. How will the blood transfusion affect the baby if I'm conceive within these period, which may be like in 1-2weeks time.

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Arun's Response
Hello , I understand your concern. I am Dr. Arun Tank, infectious disease specialist, answering your concern.
Taking iron tablet is the heart of all anemia treatment.
you can eat high iron diet, like wheat, dats, etc. Regular exercise in early morning also helps improving the hemoglobins.
you should not plan for second baby untill you get your hemoglobin level near normal.
Blood transfusion adds more of antibodies in your system. Antibodies increases chance of RhO antigen incompatibility.
