How Soon After Stopping Birth Control Pills Will Menstruation Resume?

So today is Wed and I am suppose to stop taking my birth control pills on Sunday and will get my period on Thursday of next week. I really dont want to get it then because I have prom that weekend. I know I can skip my period but I really like getting it so than I am reassured each month that I am indeed not pregnant. If I stop taking it now (with four active pills left to go) Will I just get my period 4 days soon and start taking the Sunday start again on Wed or Thurs of next week and not have my period for prom?/will this be less effective? Whats my best option?
