How Should Compressed Foot Nerve Pain Be Treated?

I have what I think is a compressed nerve on the top of my right foot, on the side facing the center of my body. It corresponds with where I tie my shoelaces & started when I was walking a lot with new athletic shoes & my old & very high orthotics. I have new orthotics now and tie my shoes differently to take pressure off the spot but it is still very sensitive & wakes me up at night with throbbing pain. I do not think it is broken because I can press & pull on it, put weight on it, have full range of motion etc. It is just in this one spot which is very slightly swollen. Should I see a doctor/treat it myself? Will it just get better on its own if I ice it & try to keep pressure off it? Does it sound like a pinched nerve to you (because I think it is)? thank you.
