How Should A Perforated Septum With Cracking, Bleeding And Infection Be Treated?

I have a perforated septum from sinus surgery this past Febuary. I have used Mupircin on it, and my Dr. had me make a nasal wash with it, and saline. The hole looks infected-yellowing, and cracking and bleeding. Just wondering, because before I had the surgery, I had chronic sinus infections, and it seems like the infection never left. I m at a loss of what to do

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi,
i gather that you underwent a surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis. I will answer the 2 parts of your question.
q1:Chronic Sinus infection, seems like the infection never left
Ans: the Surgery is just the 30 percent part of your treatment for Chronic Sinusitis. The surgery is just meant to clear your nasal and sinus passage for the adequate ventilation. The problem arises because of some allergy causing congestion in the nasal and sinus mucosa and thereby blocking the passage. After the operation you need to be regularely on Steroid nasal sprays and anti-allergic treatment or else you may have the recurrence of disease.

Q2: septal perforation, bleeding and infection.
This will not heal on its own. Apply Neosporin eye ointment over the both sides of septum to avoid it from getting dry and starting to bleed.
Your Doctor can do a transposition flap surgery to cover the septal hole and solve the problem.
