How Should Valium Be Taken Before A Surgery?

I have been given Valium to take before a surgery and I am wondering why it says to take it the evening before the procedure and then again one hour before it. Will the drug still work if I use it only one hour before the procedure and skip the night before? I would prefer to have a glass or two of wine the night before. Thank you.

Hi
Went through your post, Valium is given in the evening before surgery so that the patient will have good sleep as most of patients are anxious before surgery one hour before surgery is given for two reasons one to lower anxiety and two to potentiate anaesthesia.
