How Should VSD, Loose Motions With Acute Weight Loss Be Treated?

Dear Dr. Santosh Kondekar,

i had married with my cousins since the last 11 year and have 3 daughters 1 is now 10 years 2 is 7 years and the last one is 4 years old. my last daughter having VSD by birth and was operated when she was at the age of 6 months, after that she is suffering lose motions in every three or four months and she become weight less badly and admitted in hospital.

Now a days she is in critical condition on same conditions, and admitted again she is losing her weight day by day, last 10 days she loose 4 kg. Weight, I took all the tests like stool culture & Sensitivity,CE17-Immunoglobulins, ESR, stool examination, urine RE, Leopard Profile, CP, Bone age studies, Anti Transglutaminase- IgA, Ultrasound Abdomen, HM23-CBC Diff Profile (CS11).

Know doctors took Barium Meal Follow Through and they are not satisfied this reports and they desired to conduct â??Barium anima testâ?? also advise us to conduit â??tissue biopsy testâ?? pl. advice us what kind of HELP you give in this condition.

Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. The fact that she had a VSD operated is probably unrelated to her recurrent episodes of diarrhoea. Due to salt and water loss during such episodes she is suffering from acute weight loss which indicates that more of ORS or IV fluids need to be given. Apart from recurrent infections, the cause of diarrhoea could be due to intolerance to milk and wheat based products which should be avoided totally (except for curd/yogurt which can be given). By the biopsy, your doctor is trying to rule out such a condition. Unless I can know the reports of the investigations in detail, it is hard for me to comment further.
