Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How should liothyronine be taken? With or without food? Can I take Magnesium near the same time or not? Is it a problem to drink alcohol while on this medication. my doctor is having me take it twice a day...is there a minimum time span between doses? She suggested the second dose at noon but I wake up anytime from 6am to 8 am.....would an 8 am first dose push back the second dose? Thank you.
Liothyronine is prescribed for hypothyroidism. But you should not take this drug together with Magnesium, because maybe there is serious interaction.
Since, Liothyronine is used twice a day you may want to consult your doctor if you want to take Magnesium. And please do not drink alcohol because it may disrupt liver function that make the metabolism of this drug not optimal.
Liothyronine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken as a single dose before breakfast every day. To control the symptoms of hypothyroidism you probably will need to take this medicine for the rest of your life. It may take about 2 weeks before you notice any change in your symptoms. Consult your doctor for another information.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nurul Falah
