How Serious Is A Burst Appendix If Treated Promptly?
Hello. Im a swedish guy with a girlfriend in New York City. Last night she told me that she was in an ambulance on her way to the hospital since her appendix had burst. She told me not to worry and that she would talk to me later during the night. but she hasnt
So my question is: How serious is an burst appendix if its treatened right away. I have heard that you can die from it and since I havent heard from her I am worried. How riskful is the operation she would have to go through to remove the infection. Should I be worried even if she got treatment fast?

Ruptured appendix is a high risk condition.
The severity of ruptured appendicitis is different for every patient. Some patients have a small rupture, while others may have a big spillage of stool and pus into the abdomen. Still, others can have problems with intestinal blockage from the inflammation and infection.
Some children who have appendicitis going on for days before the diagnosis may be so sick that the infection spreads into the blood stream. This is a serious condition and can be life-threatening.
These patients will need to be stabilized before undergoing surgery. Therefore, the treatment including timing of surgery depends on how sick the patient is.
