How Much Water Is Advisable Per Day For An Adult Man?

Hello, MY husband was last week diagnosed with a mild TIA although tests were all above average with no signs of high cholesterol, clogged arteries, heart issues etc. He is not a water drinker and had just come back from a walk. it was suggested he may have been dehydrated. My question: How much water is enough for a 172 Lb. man age 72 in excellent health? Now he is advised to drink 64oz. a day.

Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
For age of 72 yrs in male the amount that you mentioned which was advised ie. 64 oz of water per day is optimum. It comes to around 2 liters of water.
A person should have around 6-8 glass of water per day. We lose water through urine, sweat and even respiration.
Usually if a person is passing clear urine without yellowish tinge that means that he is having adequate water intake.
So the amount advised is optimum for him to keep away from dehydration and subsequent risk of stroke.
I hope I have answered your query well. If you have any more question kindly write back to me, will be happy to help you out.
Thank you
