How Much Time Will Antibiotic Take To Cure Red And Itchy Rash In Lower Legs?

Hello, I ve had this rash on my (lower) legs for the past few weeks. Last Monday a clinic doctor prescribed me a antibiotic/cortisosteroid cream to use 3 times/day for 2 weeks. It is day #5 now and things still look red & itchy. Does it normally take longer for this cream to work? Many thanks, Tammy.

Hi Tammy,

With this kind of history , it is very difficult to make out what skin problem you are suffering with. I usually advise my patients to apply this type of cream for atleast 2 weeks to notice a visible effect.

It is also not mentioned that what kind of steroidal cream (mild or strong one) you are using. A strong steroid antibiotic cream usually decrease the redness and itching in a 3- 5 days but a mild one won't have such a quick result. I would also suggest you to add an antihistamine (levocetrizine, loratideine etc) in your treatment schedule to decrease the itching part.

however, If you have not noticed ANY EFFECT(even slight improvement) at all, I would suggest you to meet you doctor again.

Thanks
