How Long Medication For Thyroid Should Be Continued?

Hi As I last discussed with you regarding my Daughter s problem of thyroid. We were giving here thyroxin 50mcg and taken her thyroid test and the results are looking good. Shall we reduce the dosage or keep it as it is? We have met our Doctor whome we had shown last time and he recommended us to continue with the same dosage

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thyroxine taken for hypothyroidism should be taken life long since your daughter's thyroid gland cannot produce the hormone on its own. So the protocol is to continue Thyroxine lifelong and adjust dosing based on your TSH levels.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
