How Long Does The Pain Due To Broken Ribs Take To Alleviate?

Hi, I broke 6 ribs almost two years ago when a cow trampled me. I have recovered well and I walk a couple of miles every day. Today, I tried to do sit-ups and it was very painful in the area where the ribs were broken. Lying flat on a hard surface is painful too. Will that always be painful? Or could this be something else? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
In fact after healing, pain should not be there . only possibility is-
- weak bones ( osteoporosis ) pulled forcibly while doing sit upsto make the fracture site sore.
- There might be some spinal injury at the accident.. which is showing it's symptoms with vertebral weakness/ disc problems..& this causes a sort of muscle pull causing pain at the site of fracture,
* Solution would be after consultation of an orthopedic/ getting X ray done / blood counts for serum calcium & vitamin D.. . This will be followed by specific treatment with nutritional supplements/ pain medicine/ physiotherapy as per the cause.
Thanks.
