How Long Does Stiffness In The Body Last After A Mild Stroke?

My stroke was very mild. I did not lose use of any functions. It s been 6 weeks and my arm, leg, neck still have a feeling of being very tight. PT did not recommend any excercises, just said get on with life. How long will this feeling last. Almost the same feeling as when your foot is waking up and you stand up on it.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

It can take a very long time to resolve the funny feelings and sensations that sometimes linger after having had a stroke of a sensory nature (assuming that is the correct diagnosis).

Under those circumstances, I would definitely recommend doing things to stimulate the sensation on the affected side of the body as this is a form of rehabilitation that physical therapy does not truly address.

You may get more mileage out of seeing a PM&R doctor (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation).

They are usually able to recommend more comprehensive plans following a stroke than physical therapists since they essentially deal with all residual symptoms of the patient; not just the ones that are relevant to physical or occupational therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

General Surgeon Dr. Shinas Hussain's  Response
Hello,

Some sort of stuffiness and rigidity can happen after stroke, it will resolve spontaneously without any treatment.
If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query.
