General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Strep throat is a bacterial infection in which someone's throat and tonsils can become painful and scratchy. This condition is caused by a bacteria called group A streptococcus or streptococcus pyogenes. According to the CDC, patients with sore throat should stay at from work until the patients no longer have a fever and have taken antibiotics for at least 12-24 hours. It is very contagious, so self isolation and start taking antibiotics are very much vital.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
