Hi. It sounds as though your brother had a serious potentially life-threatening injury. Without knowing the full details, following on from his operation, the treatment he will now be receiving is supportive - helping his body carry out what it needs to do in order to take any excess strain away, enabling it to recover in it's own time. There is no quick-fix or short-cut in situations like this. Your brother's body needs to heal itself in it's own time whilst the intensive care doctors help with his work of breathing and feeding and preventing any further insults. When he is strong enough, then they will allow him to breath by himself, but his treatment will be weaned off very gradually so he does not have to deal with any major sudden changes.
