How Long Does Drowsiness Of TB Medications Last?

Hi My mom is under medication for TB. She is taking R Cin, Isokin, Combutol and Pyzina. This has led to drowsiness. Have also started multi vitamin capsule called Rx Plus (from Ipca) and also Vitcofol injections,but the drowsiness still persists. Would appreciate if u could advise on how long would this last?

Hello,

R Cin (rifampin), Combutol (ethambutol), Pyzina (Pyrazinamine) all have the known side effect of drowsiness. I have a high suspicion that these side effects are what is causing your mother's drowsiness. Unfortunately, these are the standard of care medications for TB currently and I believe that her diagnosis necessitates continuation of them despite her drowsiness. I would ask that you inform your mother's prescribing physician about her developing these effects to see what recommendations might be made. These effects will likely last the duration of her continued use of these medications.
