How Long Does Cipro Take To Cure Symptoms Of Uti?

I was just diagnosed with a uti. I had blood in my urine and elevated white blood cells. I am currently experiencing low back pain and left kidney pain. I spiked a fever of 103 and began vomiting. Should I call my Dr again or wait for cipro to kick in? I am currently breastfeeding as well.

Hi,

Urinary system comprises of a pair of kidneys which filters the blood and forms urine, ureter connecting the kidneys to the urinary bladder and finally urethra to pass the filtered urine out of body. In females urinary tract infections are more common because of short urethra. Mild infections may subside without any antibiotics. But, sometimes the infection may progress upwards into the urinary bladder, ureter and finally into the kidney. If the infection ascends up involving the bladder and kidneys may results in fever, chills, vomiting, abdominal and back pain.

Blood and urine investigation may be needed for assessing the status of infection, Imaging studies also needed sometimes. Ciprofloxacin twice a day with 12 hours interval for 7 to 10 days is a good antibiotic of choice in urinary tract infection. Unless there is resistance for the antibiotic, appropriate dosage relieves the infection. If there is symptoms persist, discuss with the doctor about urine culture and sensitivity test for sensitive antibiotic therapy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
