How Long Does Azithromycin Take To Treat Symptoms Of Chlamydia?

Hi i was diagnosed as positive for chlamydia. I took Azithromycin(500mg, 2 tablets) at 3pm today and the symptoms dont seem like its improving. How long does it take for azithromycin to make the symptoms (urine passing pain) to go away? If i have been taking other antibiotics the days before i took azithromycin, would it be possible I might have developed resistance to antibiotics?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear user,

I really understand your concern.

The duration of Azithromycin course therapy is 5 days.

If your urinary tract infection doesn't resolve, I suggest you to do an urine culture and sensivity to determinate which antibiotic is useful to treat this recurrent/resistant infection. Also for the pain I would prescribe Pyridium 200 mg three times daily for 1 to 2 days.

Don't forget to drink 6-8 glasses of water or cranberry tea. That will help you fight this infection!

All the best.
