How Long Can One Use Diclofenac For Swollen Finger Joints?

How long can I use Diclofenac sodium topical gel? I was taking Celebrex for my arthritis. However, it is very expense and I wanted to try something else. My doctor told me to take 1000 mg. of acetaminophen 3 times a day. That takes care of the pain but I was worried about the swelling in my finger joints so he prescribed Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel twice a day. Is this something I can do long term? Reviews show you should take it for 60 - 90 days.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Diclofenac gel provides only symptomatic relief. Complete recovery from the disease is not possible with diclofenac gel. Consult a rheumatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
