How Long Can Beetroot Colour Stay In Stools?

I ate a salad containing a lot of beetroot On Saturday night, Sunday morning I had maroon coloured stools and again on Monday. How long can beetroot colour stay in your stools?. As it happens I am having a Colonoscopy and gastroposy in the next few days for a routine check up. I am 49. No history of bowel cancer. Up to now I have had normal type bowel motions with normal coloured stools.
Can you help me and should I be worried.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Beetroot can give maroon color to the stool as has been in your case and it takes about 3 - 5 days to clear the stool of this color.
So no worry.
Carry on with scheduled Gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
If in doubt you can get the stool checked for blood and altered or occult blood to clear the mind off the possible cancer colon or any bleeding problems.
Do not repeat taking beetroot.
Avoid anything that contains more iron like pomegranate, green and red leafy vegetables.
