Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In the treatment of achalasia cardia, the drug Calcigard is usually prescribed for about 6 to 12 months.

If the disease show symptomatic improvement (reappearance of a consistent peristaltic activity and sphincter relaxations), the therapy may be continued. If this does not happen, other kinds of treatment such as surgery have to be carried out.

Calcigard drug (Nifedipine) is a calcium channel blocker primarily used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris and other conditions including Achalasia cardia.

Its common side effects include a headache, increase heartbeats, flushing, constipation and swelling around the ankles and feet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
