How Long After Swallowing A Coin Will It Take A Child To Pass It?

My 8 year old daughter swallowed a 10p coin yesterday afternoon. We took her to A & E and they x rayed her. They said the coin had reached the entrance to the stomach at around 2pm yesterday. I asked how long it should take to pass through and they said usually around 24 hours. Its now gone past 24 hours and I m wondering if I should be worrying. She says she is not in pain and she s eating and drinking

I am glad to know that nothing dangerous happened to your daughter after swallowing the coin.
As far as time taken by the coin to pass through the bowels is concerned, I would like to mention here that it depends upon bowel habits of a person and gut motility, some people may have 3 bowel movements in 24 hours as a normal and some may have one in 48 hours as a normal routine.

You don't have to worry about it much , hopefully it will be passed out of her body within next 48 hours.
It is usually advised that fibre intake should be increased when foreign object is swallowed by some one. For this fibre supplements, banana or other fibrous foods can be given/

Most child specialists encourage kids to eat loads of bananas after coin swallowing, they make quite much of bulk and make it easy for the patient to pass the foreign object out of their body.

END: Do not worry , if daughter has no pain and abdominal distension , the coin will be passed real soon in next 12-24 hours , if she has not passed it yet this is not abnormal it may take some more time.
