How Is The Refractive Error Of Eye Calculated?

Dear Doc, How do we calculate the refractive error for lasik treatment. I mean for Example If the Power of the LE Sph is -7.0D and Cyl is -1.0 then the final calculating count should be -8.0 as in my insurance it is mentioned as Lasik is payable only if the refractive error is more then +/- 7.5D

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

One is spherical power and one is cylinder, you can not simply add both because both are different. Consult an ophthalmologist and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
