Hi Dr. Rynne. I m a female...I have herpes on the buttocks, how did I get this here w/o any sexual penetration?? I did receive oral sex but nothing is on my vaginal area? My OBGY said everything looks normal around my vaginal area......so is she basically saying that I m still carrying the virus an can spread it through any sexual experience?? Thanks Doctor!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ma'am
I really appreciate your concern
herpes can spread from buttocks to vaginal area due to close.proximity or a poor unhygienic conditions

in my opinion you should try to avoid sex until it heals completely
you can clean perivaginal area with an antiseptic solution to maintain asepsis
it's better to treat your partner also prophylactically for complete cure of the herpes

Have plenty of fluids
observe good hygiene
Practice safe sex use condom avoid sex if possible

Hope this addresses your question
please don't hesitate to ask for further clarification
I will be happy to help you
Good luck
