How Harmful Is Paranoid Schizophrenia With Smoking Habits?
I have a 20 year old nephew who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia for about 2 1/2 years now. He is on 1000mg depakote and he is receiving a shot once a month of invega. He has just been prescribed seraquil and propanol. I m not sure if i have the spelling correct. Another problem is that he has been smoking marijuana when he is outside the home, which we do not encourage. Mt question is how harmful is his behavior ?
Marijuana is extremely harmful for him, much more than had he been smoking plain cigarettes. Marijuana is well known to worsen schizophrenia. In fact, it also increases the risk of developing schizophrenia in people who do not have it. You will notice that his symptoms decrease and lower dosages of medicines are needed if he remains abstinent from marijuana. He should also refrain from abusing other psychoactive drugs like meth, cocaine etc.
Hope this helps him. Best wishes.
