How Effective Is Metosartan In Treating High BP?

I am 46 years old. I have high BP. For the past one and half year I am using metosartan 25 mg tablets (one per day) prescribed by my doctor in India. I am working in Kuwait and this medicine is not available in Kuwait. Here they are giving captopril 25 mg tablets. I felt captopril is not that much effective. So I am bringing metosartan from India.Another thing is I check my BP usually once in a week. Some times it goes low up to 80/110. Is it Ok. or Is there any lower dose of medicine.

Hi welcome to HCM.
You seem to have hypotension/low blood pressure following the intake of captopril .This drug is known to cause first dose hypotension which results in sudden drop of blood pressure over serial readings.Instead drugs like Metosartan which has similar action like captopril but is more effective in maintaining the blood pressure in normal range. This drug is overall better to captopril. In case you do not have access to Metosartan,i recommend you go with lowered dose of captopril 12.5 mg.Monitor your blood pressure twice daily.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
Thank you.
