How Effective Are Ciprofloxacin And Serratiopeptidase In Treating Size Abnormality Of Epididymis?

I had a little pain above my right testicle since last ten days, it became unbearable three days back and I went to the doctor for the ultrasound. Radiologist mentioned that my right epididymis size is more than normal and pocket of pus has formed. He referred me to a general surgeon, after examining doctor prescribed a 500mg tablet containing ciprofloxacin hcl and a 10mg tablet containing serratiopeptidase. After taking the medicine for two days, currently there is no pain, however there is no difference in increased epididymis size. Please suggest should I continue the same medicine, if yes then for how long for the complete cure from disease and what are the precautions to avoid this as I am 30 years old, single and not involve any sexual activities. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
Ciprofloxacin & Serratiopeptidase are effective in the treatment of the infection involving the testis and epididymis (epididymo-orchitis).
Usually these medications are prescribed for at least two weeks.
In most cases of acute epididymo-orchitits it will take two to three days to notice improvement. Complete resolution of symptoms will take longer.
If the swelling or redness does not subside even after three days of treatment then it could be due to formation of an abscess (pocket of pus). In that case you need to consult a surgeon for possible incision & drainage of the abscess.
After an episode of acute epididymo-orchitits usually there is complete recovery and there can rarely be blockage of the epididymis, which would reduce delivery of sperm from that testicle. Besides, the other testicle is unaffected so there should not be any problem to father a child normally.

In addition, you need bed rest for one to two days combined with elevation of the scrotum. The aim is to get the inflamed epididymis above the level of the heart. This improves blood flow out of the testicle, which promotes more rapid healing and reduces swelling and discomfort. Intermittent application of ice might also be of assistance and, in cases due to infection, adequate intake of plenty of fluids will also be helpful.
