How Early Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed After Possible Exposure?

Had a sexual exposure almost a month back. Got myself tested at 8th day with hiv1 rna and hiv1/2 p24 combo test, both came negative. Did hiv1/2 p24 test again on 16th dau came negative. Again did a hiv1 rna quantitative test on 25th day along with hiv1/2 p24 test, both came negative. How conclusive is this. Do i have a chance of turning positive in future?

Hello,

HIV 1/2 rapid or duo test has great sensitivity. Normally, p24 antigen is seen in tests even around 2 weeks of exposure but the tests have low sensitivity at that time. The HIV antigen antibody test at around 4 weeks has sensitivity of around 90% or more.

Since, you tested negative at 25 days so the chances that the test will come positive in future are rare. The test if comes negative at 12 weeks is considered as conclusive and as per guidelines no further testing is advised.
