How Early Can HIV Be Diagnosed After A Possible Exposure?
Hello Dr. I ve had protected vaginal sex with a female colleague and her vaginal fluids came in touch with folliculitis at the back of my head. The same pimples a person gets after a haircut. I tested negative in 40 days using a rapid antibody test. So I just wanted to know if there is any chance off the negative test in 40 days changing to a positive test in 3 months. Thank you in advance for your time dr.
To detect the presence of HIV in adults, more cheap and fast HIV antibody tests are used. A person infected with HIV will produce certain antibodies against the HIV virus infection. Generally HIV antibody tests will detect antibodies that form in the blood, saliva, and urine. In recent years, a rapid test has been developed to detect HIV antibodies from blood drops or saliva samples (saliva) of humans. The sample of the patient's body will be mixed with a particular solution. Then, the test strip (test strip) is inserted and if it shows positive results it will appear two reddish-purple ribbons.
The accuracy of the test equipment reaches 99.6%, but all positive results still need to be confirmed again by ELISA examination.
I suggest you to recheck again after 6 months since the risky sexual intercourse.
Thank you, dr. Nurul
