How Does Mesalazine Once A Day Effect Stools?

Patient is 6 months post-op TKA on left. Reported numbness to left lateral lower leg (distal fibula) throughout recovery. Was doing fine and had returned to normal ADL s. Recent episode of complete loss of muscle control to left foot and ankle. Started on steriods two days ago with improvement to active dorsiflexion (MMT poor +). Dr is exploring possible back involvement. Pt never had any other LE symptoms beside above mentioned numbness to lateral lower leg. Pt is a 70 year old female. General health is good.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Mesalazine is given for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The drug reduces the inflammation and thereby reduces the frequency of stools.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
