How Do You Know When You Need An Internal Medicine Doctor Instead Of A Family Physician?

How do you know when you need an internal medicine Dr. instead of a family physician? What's the difference? I have been diagnosed with: depression, ocd, fibromyalgia, OA, copd, "severe" sleep apnea(stop breathing 100 times an hour), high blood pressure, and gerd. I'm a 61 yr. old female. I regularly see a: phyciatrist, rheumatologist, pulmonary Dr., and physician's assistant. Should I switch from the PA to a Dr. of internal medicine?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello and thank you for asking HCM,

I understand your concern but there is no reason to switch from your GP to a internal medicine specialist. For example your pulmonary dr is also an internal medicne doctor but specialized for pulmonary disease. It is good to have a doctor who has an overview to all findings and to who you can go when you feel any symptoms or changes becuse he has an overview on your complete condition.

I hope this answer was helpful to you.
