How Do Clotrimazole-Betamethasone And Ketoconazole Differ From Each Other?

I was given clotrimazole-bethamethasone cream for a fungus on my neck. I used two tubes then my Dr changed it to Kathoconazole. The first cream stopped the itch and worked very good the second cream don t stop the itch. What is the difference between the two?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine while Betamethasone is a steroid..
Ketoconazole is also an antifungal medicine..
As you had itching over the neck and after using Ketoconazole cream the itching did not stop it is because of the reason that it was lacking steroid that is potent to reduce inflammation and itching sensation and in the absence of steroid itching progressed..
Ketoconazole and Clotrimazole are suitable to reduce fungal infection but cannot resolve itching..
I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and explain the immediate symptoms so that he can either advise you the previous cream or can give you another formulation containing a steroid along with antifungal..
As of now you can take anti allergics like Leocetrizine or Benadryl to relieve itching..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
